Shakespeare North & Knowsley

Knowsley Council is excited by the vision of Shakespeare North Trust to regenerate, inspire, enthuse and educate through a project that brings life to the rich heritage of the area, opening it up tp new generations and to people from all across the Globe. The Council will work to support Shakespeare North Trust in achieving their unique vision, in the heart of Prescot where the story begins

Shakespeare North is not only a cultural and educational vision; it will also bring social and economic regeneration to a community eager for and deserving of change.

Prescot is a small hilltop town in the north of England, 12 miles east of Liverpool and within sight of the great River Mersey. In recent years, Prescot has known hard times. The town sits in the borough of Knowsley, the Council of which is committed to transforming the area.

It is into this landscape that Shakespeare North brings the prospect of cultural, social and economic renewal and regeneration, the very real significance of which has been confirmed by Impact Studies commissioned by the Trust.

Shakespeare North aims to create for Prescot, Knowsley and the region as a whole an international reputation, completing the Shakespeare triangle: Stratford, London and the North West. Our unique vision is to create a theatre in which local people interact with tourists, theatre enthusiasts, scholars and students from throughout the world.
